Our popular Bike & Boat Tour starts near the historic Guilford Green in Guilford, CT, about 25 minutes east of New Haven. We’ll take you from the Green out to Stony Creek, stopping in Sachem’s Head, once a vacation stop for 19th Century New Yorkers.
In Stony Creek you’ll board the Volsunga IV for a scenic one hour narrated cruise of the charming Thimble Islands. “The Thimbles” were first discovered by Adrian Block in 1614. These islands were used for everything from farming, fishing, and quarrying its pink granite to bootlegging and were once the hiding place of the infamous pirate Captain Kidd in 1665.
Following a leisurely cruise, we refill the water bottles for the quick trip back to Guilford and a visit to the oldest home in Connecticut and the oldest stone house in New England. After a brief history lesson (I'll ask if you know what year the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock) we travel an easy mile to our finish just off the Guilford Green.
